The City of Vaughan’s Infrastructure Delivery department has been recognized by the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) for its award-winning work to improve stormwater management infrastructure in Gallanough Park.

As part of the City’s commitment to enhancing community spaces and ensuring they can be enjoyed for generations to come, extensive improvements were completed in Gallanough Park to revitalize the playground, improve drainage and help mitigate flooding. This included constructing a new underground stormwater management facility in the park, building a storm relief sewer on Arnold Avenue, and installing an overland stormwater relief path at Tanjo Court and Springfield Way. Together, these improvements help alleviate flooding adjacent to and north of the park during heavy rainfall events.

And this critical work has set a gold standard, winning the 2026 OPWA Project of the Year Award. This achievement was celebrated with Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council during a special ceremonial presentation at the Sept. 29 Council Meeting.

Recognitions like this highlight the Infrastructure Delivery department’s commitment to planning, maintaining and delivering high-quality infrastructure for the community.

The OPWA is a nonprofit professional organization that serves professionals involved in public works – such as transportation, water systems, emergency management, parks, engineering, and city infrastructure. It includes members from local, provincial and federal agencies, as well as private-sector companies that support public works.
