Nominations are now open for candidates in Vaughan’s 2026 municipal election

The City of Vaughan is now accepting nominations from individuals interested in running in the 2026 municipal election for Council or local school board trustee positions. Nominations may be filed for the following offices:

 

Vaughan Council

  • Mayor
  • Local and Regional Councillor (four elected at large)
  • Ward 1 Councillor (Maple/Kleinburg)
  • Ward 2 Councillor (West Woodbridge)
  • Ward 3 Councillor (Woodbridge/Vellore)
  • Ward 4 Councillor (Concord/Thornhill)
  • Ward 5 Councillor (Thornhill)

 

York Region District School Board

  • Trustee – King and Vaughan Ward 1 (the Clerk of the Township of King administers nominations for this office)
  • Trustee – Vaughan Wards 2 and 3
  • Trustee – Vaughan Wards 4 and 5

 

York Catholic District School Board

  • Trustee – Vaughan Ward 1
  • Trustee – Vaughan Ward 2
  • Trustee - Vaughan Wards 3, 4 and 5 (two elected at large)

 

Conseil scolaire Viamonde

  • Trustee – York Region / conseillers scolaires - Région de York

 

Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir

  • Trustee – York Region / conseillers scolaires - Région de York

Prospective candidates can submit their nomination forms in person by appointment at the Office of the City Clerk during the official nomination period, which runs until Friday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. It is located on the first floor of Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.). 

 

Submissions are accepted by appointment only during regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled in advance by contacting Elections Vaughan by email at elections@vaughan.ca or by phone 905-832-2281, ext. 6104.

 

Get on the voters’ list

Although election day is still months away, you are encouraged to confirm you are on the voters’ list by visiting registertovoteon.ca

 

Eligible voters for municipal elections must be: 

  • a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old; and
  • a resident of the municipality; OR
  • a non-resident who owns or rents property in the municipality; OR
  • the spouse of an owner or tenant of property in the municipality.
