New to gardening or looking to sharpen your skills? Join the City of Vaughan for a FREE gardening workshop!

 

Earlier this year, the City conducted a survey for our Vaughan Gardeners program, and you told us the topics you wanted to learn more about. At the next two workshops, you’ll learn everything you need to know about healthy soil, and how to manage invasive species and pests. 

 

Here are the details:

 

Soil Health: The Dirt on Thriving Gardens

Learn how adding compost and other nutrients to soil can benefit your plants. Suitable for all ages, this session takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Assembly Park Community Garden (80 Interchange Way). This workshop will be delivered in partnership with the York Region Food Network and features:

  • interactive demonstrations

  • hands-on soil exploration activities

  • worm castings to take home

Creating Resilient Gardens: Managing Invasive Species and Pests

Learn how to tell the difference between invasive and native species and explore environmentally responsible pest management techniques. Get your hands-on experience on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10:30 to noon at Kortright Centre for Conservation (9550 Pine Valley Dr.). This workshop will be delivered in partnership with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and features:

  • educational presentation and discussion

  • hands-on identification and removal activity

  • species identification walk

  • native seed packets to take home
