Kirby Road Extension Between Bathurst Street and Dufferin Street Now OPEN
A major infrastructure milestone has been reached with the completion of the Kirby Road extension between Bathurst Street and Dufferin Street – improving connectivity, reducing gridlock and helping keep Vaughan moving.
On Aug. 25, Mayor Steven Del Duca, Members of Council and other dignitaries gathered to celebrate the completion of this key infrastructure project for Vaughan.
Extending Kirby Road in this area is part of the Council-approved Nine Point Action Plan to Fight Traffic Gridlock and is a significant infrastructure development in Vaughan. The total project cost is $65 million, with $45 million coming from the City of Vaughan and $20 million from the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.
The newly completed roadway features:
- four lanes (two in each direction) to improve traffic flow.
- a new bridge crossing East Patterson Creek.
- in-boulevard multi-use pathways on both sides of the road for cyclists and pedestrians.
- new roadway lighting to enhance safety and visibility.
- intersection upgrades at Dufferin Street and Bathurst Street.
- new streetscaping.
The completion of the Kirby Road extension reflects Vaughan’s commitment to reducing gridlock, improving commutes and keeping people moving. By strengthening east-west connectivity, this project supports a more accessible and connected city.
