Responsibilities:
- Design and Deliver Culinary Programming
Develop and implement a dynamic portfolio of culinary programs for Vaughan Studios & Event Space, including seasonal workshops, camps, and long-term curriculum planning. - Curriculum Development
Create detailed lesson plans for all culinary offerings, with a strategic vision to grow and launch a fully branded Culinary Academy. - Instruction Across Age Groups
Lead engaging culinary classes for participants of all ages, adapting teaching methods to suit varying skill levels and learning styles. - Skill Assessment and Feedback
Evaluate participant progress and provide constructive, supportive feedback to encourage growth and confidence in the kitchen. - Participant Safety and Supervision
Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and active supervision of all participants during culinary programs. - Kitchen Operations Support
Assist in managing kitchen operations, including inventory control, equipment maintenance, and supply organization. - Program Setup and Cleanup
Oversee the setup and takedown of culinary spaces, ensuring cleanliness and readiness before and after each session. - Kitchen Resource Management
Maintain a well-equipped kitchen with appropriate appliances, tools, and gadgets to support a variety of culinary activities. - Grocery and Supply Coordination
Monitor grocery stock levels and prepare detailed shopping lists to ensure program readiness and minimize waste. - Mentorship, Lead Hand and Team Support
Serve as a mentor and lead hand to junior culinary staff, fostering a collaborative and professional kitchen environment. - Incident Reporting
Accurately document and report any incidents or accidents to the Recreation Lead in a timely manner.
Qualifications and requirements
- Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Significant experience (3+ years) instructing culinary programs, workshops, or camps.
- Valid Food Handler Certification required; additional safety or sanitation training is an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively with participants, staff, and parents in a clear and professional manner.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain inventory, and coordinate program logistics.
- Experience supervising or mentoring staff in a kitchen or instructional setting.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent service and resolve issues with tact and empathy.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with diverse age groups and skill levels.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift kitchen equipment or groceries, and perform hands-on culinary tasks.
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR‐C certification from a WSIB‐approved first aid provider; must maintain certifications on an ongoing basis; at own expense.
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be obtained by applicant upon offer of employment – results letter must be presented prior to employment start date; at own expense
- Smart Serve Certification is an asset
