By-laws are put in place to ensure a safe and orderly community for all who live, work and play in Vaughan. Licences and permits are required to do many things in the city like running a business, hosting a special event, owning an animal and doing construction to your home.

COVID-19 outbreak response

As part of the City’s ongoing efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in our communities, City Hall will remain closed to the public for the time-being. Services will be significantly limited during this time. Please check our web site often for service updates.
   
Temporary Outdoor Patio Regulations
 
A permit application must be completed with the applicant attesting that he or she meets all of the requirements to set up a Temporary Outdoor Patio. A business licence with an endorsement for a Temporary Outdoor Patio shall be issued within two days; however, applicants may set up a Temporary Outdoor Patio upon submission of their application. Council approves Emergency Measures By-law: Fines range from $500 to $100,000
 
During an electronic-participation special Council meeting on Wednesday, April 8, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council approved the Emergency Measures By-law. 
  
 
 
Services affected
 

Business licensing

The 180-day grace period for businesses to renew their municipal business ended on September 1, 2020. 
All businesses must renew in accordance with their renewal notice. Please note, the deferrals apply to the 
fees only and do not change future renewal dates or any other associated obligations.
 
New businesses are still required to be licensed. New licence applications may be submitted by email to bylaw@vaughan.ca, along with scanned copies of required documentation. Payments can be made by cheque and mailed to Vaughan City Hall at 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., Vaughan, ON, L6A 1T1.  
 
Other permits
 
Lottery Licence/Charitable Gaming applications must be submitted by mail or to the drop box at Vaughan City Hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., Vaughan, ON, L6A 1T1.

Event and filming permits are being reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Parking infractions and other administrative monetary penalties
 
If an administrative monetary penalty, such as a parking ticket, is received, it can be paid online at PayVaughanTicket.com.
 
To arrange an alternative method of payment or to schedule an appointment to dispute the ticket, call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 within 15 days of receiving it. Failure to do so may result in extra fees and penalties.
   
By-law complaints and inquiries
 
For inquiries related to the City’s enforcement services or to register a complaint, call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281. By-law officers continue to operate, patrol and respond to calls on a priority basis.
