Project Updates for the Neighbourhood Traffic Calming Plan

To date, we have engaged with community members, external partners, Members of Council and other community leaders to refine the City’s approach to traffic calming. We have also:

  • created criteria to prioritize projects to continue advancing MoveSmart initiatives.
  • developed an updated process for how traffic calming measures are evaluated.
  • identified preliminary tools and measures that can be implemented to address speed management.

The updated Neighbourhood Traffic Committee Policy and Procedures recommends tools to support the implementation of quick-build traffic calming measures (such as enhanced pavement markings, flexi-posts, temporary curb extensions and rubber speed cushions) that can provide a higher degree of flexibility without requiring expensive road reconstruction.

Phase 2 and 3 – underway

Piloting the new traffic calming toolbox

Temporary measures will be installed in the summer of 2023 and monitored and evaluated into spring 2024. At that time, the temporary measures may be extended, refined or the City may consider another approach. This decision will be made based on data and neighbourhood support.
