The City of Vaughan values the voice of its residents and is dedicated to promoting a dialogue with the community that is open, transparent, accessible and inclusive. Community consultation is a key component of the study process.

 

What’s been done to date

The following outlines the past engagement opportunities for the Weston 7 Secondary Plan to date:

 

Phase one

As part of phase one, the City engaged with landowners, local businesses, residents and other key stakeholders to develop the vision and guiding principles that would form the basis of the Weston 7 study area. Here is a summary of how public feedback was collected:

 

  • Ideas workshop (June 27, 2018)
    • The ideas workshop was the first public engagement opportunity for the Weston 7 Secondary Plan. During this workshop, interested stakeholders were invited to participate in activities and provide feedback on what opportunities exist for the study area.   • Interactive vision and principles Open House (Nov. 7, 2018)
    • Following feedback received from the ideas workshop, residents and stakeholders were invited to help define the vision and key principles that guided the development of the Weston 7 Secondary Plan study area. For more information, view the vision and principles (PDF) presentation.

 

  • Emerging land use scenarios workshop (March 25, 2019)
    • During this final engagement opportunity of phase one, three draft land use scenarios were presented in support of the previously developed vision and guiding principles. For more information, view the draft land use scenarios (PDF) presentation.

 

Phase two

The City consulted with the public, Indigenous peoples, landowners and a technical advisory committee comprised of subject matter experts from internal City departments and external agencies as part of phase two.

 

Here is a summary of how public feedback has been collected to date during phase two:

 

  • Pre-engagement meetings with four First Nations and the local Métis Council were held in fall 2020. The meetings served as an introduction to the Weston 7 Secondary Plan and the project team. These meetings included:
    • Huron-Wendat Nation (Sept. 23, 2020)
    • Toronto-York Region Métis Council (Sept. 23, 2020)
    • Six Nations of the Grand River (Sept. 25, 2020)
    • Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (Nov. 30, 2020)
  • These have known, asserted rights in the territory and discussion took place with the local Métis Council as a best practice. A meeting did not take place with the Haudenosaunee Chiefs Confederacy Council.

 

  • Virtual Public Open House #1 
    • Virtual Public Open House #1 meeting was held on November 4, 2021, to engage the public on the Weston 7 Secondary Plan and provide an overview of the advancements that have been made since phase the start of phase two. This Open House was held jointly with the Weston 7 Transportation Master Plan Public Information Centre #1. For more information, view the Public Open House #1 (PDF) presentation.

       

  • Public Open House #2
    • Public Open House #2 meeting was held on September 6, 2023, to engage the public on the Weston 7 Secondary Plan and allow residents an opportunity to review and provide feedback on Draft #1 of the Secondary Plan.   • Statutory Public Meeting
    • A Statutory Public Meeting was held on November 1, 2023, to engage the public on the Weston 7 Secondary Plan and to present and seek feedback on Draft #2 of the Secondary Plan. For more information, view the Public Meeting (PDF) presentation, Staff Report, and Draft #2 of the Secondary Plan
