Designated Heritage Property Grant Pilot Program
Exciting news for heritage property owners in Vaughan!
The City of Vaughan is pleased to introduce a new pilot grant program under By-Law 011-2025, to help residents protect and celebrate our city’s history.
If you own a heritage property designated under Part IV or V of the Ontario Heritage Act, you may be eligible for cost-sharing support to help preserve and restore the unique architectural and cultural features that make your property part of Vaughan’s rich history.
What is the objective of the program?
The program aims to ensure that grant assistance is awarded to projects that best uphold the visibility, integrity and recognized conservation standards of Vaughan’s designated heritage properties:
- Eligible heritage properties designated under Part IV (individual) or Part V with contributing heritage value that propose projects that will conserve and protect
- If the project is within a Heritage Conservation District (Part V) the eligible proposed heritage projects shall follow heritage conservation principles and guidelines from the relevant Vaughan Heritage Conservation District Plan.
- If the property is designated individually under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, eligible works shall conserve the heritage values that are identified in the designation by-law.
- Policies of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (or its successor) and the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada.
- The work should be well-planned and aim to keep as much of the original historic features as possible.
- All proposed heritage projects must undergo the approval process that is set out, including Vaughan Council approval before starting any work, in order to be eligible for the requested grant.
- Grants will not be given if the property is currently under a Property Standards order.
