Vaughan is home to many beautiful ponds, including more than 150 stormwater management ponds, which are human-made and designed to temporarily hold water before releasing it back into the environment at a controlled rate. They are not intended – or safe – for recreational use!

Water constantly flows in and out of stormwater ponds, so the water levels are always changing, making any activity in or around them unsafe. So, when you’re out and about this fall, please keep a safe distance from these ponds.

To recognize their impact and contributions, the Vaughan Business and Entrepreneurship Centre (VBEC) is hosting events and running special programs during Small Business Week from Monday, Oct. 21 until Friday, Oct. 25!

200 trees planted with funding from Tree Canada

The City of Vaughan’s urban forest – the trees we enjoy throughout the community in our yards, parks, ravines and more – is growing! 

Today, a special event was held to plant 200 trees in North Maple Regional Park thanks to a $10,000 grant from Tree Canada. Mayor Steven Del Duca, Members of Council, City staff, community volunteers and representatives from Tree Canada were on hand to help out.

Vaughan’s 11th fire station set to open in 2026

Work begins on the City of Vaughan’s newest fire hall, Fire Station 7-12! 

Today, the City and Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service officially broke ground at 9511 Weston Rd. to mark the start of construction for the City’s 11th fire station. Mayor Steven Del Duca, Members of Council, VFRS Chief Andrew Zvanitajs and City staff were in attendance for this city-building milestone that will enhance fire safety for everyone who lives in the area. 

The time to give thanks with loved ones is just around the corner! Before making plans for the Thanksgiving holiday, please be aware of the following City of Vaughan facility closures and modified hours on Monday, Oct. 14.

As you’re out enjoying the city’s many parks and open spaces this fall, remember to do your part to keep our neighbourhoods safe, clean and beautiful. 

Vaughan Animal Services (VAS) is dedicated to creating a safe community for pets and their owners – which includes offering microchipping services and rabies vaccines. 

Book an appointment to bring your pets to the microchip and rabies clinic at the Vaughan Animal Shelter (located at 70 Tigi Crt., Unit 47) on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call the City of Vaughan at 905-832-2281 to schedule your timeslot. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
