Soccer players and fans joined Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council on Wednesday to kick off the official opening of Sonoma Heights Community Park Artificial Turf Soccer Field.

​On Tuesday, August 23, 2011, York Region Transit (YRT/Viva) will host a public information centre at Al Palladini Community Centre to discuss the YRT/Viva 2012 Service Plan. The session is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. and residents are encouraged to attend and provide their input.

The public is invited to sign a book of condolences in memory of The Honourable Jack Layton. The book is available to sign in the main atrium at Vaughan City Hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.

​The City of Vaughan’s 2011/2012 Fall & Winter Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan homes by July 30, along with City Playhouse Theatre and Doors Open Vaughan brochures.

Today it was announced that the Province of Ontario has approved a new hospital in Vaughan. The Honourable Deb Matthews, Ontario's Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, made the announcement at Vaughan City Hall.

​During National Drowning Prevention Week, July 16 to 23, 2011, the City of Vaughan has organized a series of water smart activities at Garnet A. Williams Pool and Thornhill Outdoor Pool.

Residents and visitors celebrated Canada’s 144th birthday with headline entertainment at the City of Vaughan’s Canada Day celebrations on Friday, July 1 at Mackenzie Glen District Park in Maple.

​The City of Vaughan’s first animal shelter is now open to provide services to the residents of Vaughan, the Town of Bradford, West Gwillimbury and King Township.
