This well-loved Ward 3 neighbourhood park is set for a refresh. Plans include updates to the basketball court, soccer field and playground, creating an even better space for families, athletes and the community to connect and play.
But that’s not all! A new shade structure is coming to the park and the existing bocce court is ready for renewal – giving you the opportunity to help reimagine the space. Should the bocce court be updated, transformed into a fitness area, a community garden or an open greenspace for relaxation and movement? And what style of shade structure would you like to see – a traditional design or something more modern and unique?

Emily Carr Secondary School artificial turf field and lighting
The City of Vaughan has partnered with the York Region District School Board to convert the existing grass soccer field at Emily Carr Secondary School (4901 Rutherford Rd.) to an artificial, multi-purpose sports field with lighting. Work is scheduled to begin by April and be completed by the end of the year.
- What is a multi-purpose field? A multi-purpose field is designed to support a variety of sports, including soccer, football and field hockey.
- What is an artificial turf field? Artificial turf is a synthetic surface that looks and feels like grass. Artificial turf provides users with an extended playing season, from spring to late fall.
- What is field lighting? Field lighting is a specialized lighting system used to illuminate a large outdoor area, such as a sports field, and provides users with extended permitting hours. Studies have been completed to ensure the field lighting being installed at the Emily Carr Secondary School does not shine into neighbouring homes and communities.
Alexander Elisa Park
The City of Vaughan is continuing to explore improvements to Alexander Elisa Park through its State-of-Good-Repair program, which allocates funding each year to repair, replace and update park facilities across the community to ensure they are kept in good condition for all to enjoy.
In June and July 2025, community members participated in an online survey and Open House to share their thoughts on the existing bocce court at the park. Popular alternatives to bocce included an outdoor fitness area, a new play area and a gathering space. We also heard a strong desire for a splashpad at the park through additional suggestions.
In November, residents were asked to provide feedback on two potential concepts for the park, one featuring an outdoor fitness area and additional play area, and another featuring a splashpad. Both concepts also include a new gathering space with a shade structure. Thank you to everyone who participated and provided their input.
