Vaughan Honours Canadian Heroes with Remembrance Day Service
Every year, at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, we honour the brave Canadians who have served and continue to serve our country.
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m., Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council will host a Remembrance Day Service at the Woodbridge Cenotaph, also known as the Woodbridge Memorial Tower (80 Wallace St.), to commemorate the brave Canadians who risked – and, in many cases, lost – their lives in times of war, conflict and peace.
Members of the public are invited to attend the service and are welcome to join us at the Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena (5020 Highway 7) for refreshments following the service. Please note that Wallace Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 11. Parking will be available at Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena.
Additionally, Wallace House (137 Woodbridge Ave.) will be open on Remembrance Day, featuring displays of military uniforms, newspaper clippings and photographs related to the First and Second World Wars. Visitors are invited to explore these meaningful exhibits as part of the day's commemorations.
Remembrance Month
Throughout the first two weeks of November, residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on remembrance, peace and hope on the City of Vaughan’s Poppy Mural at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.). Visitors can also view this year’s historical exhibit, which pays tribute to the wartime experiences of people from Vaughan and York Region who served during the World Wars. The exhibit will be on display at City Hall until Friday, Nov. 13 and online for one year at vaughan.ca/RemembranceMonth.
The City will also host a Remembrance Month Ceremony at Vaughan City Hall on Monday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
QUOTE
“On November 11, we gather as a community to pay tribute to the brave Canadians who have served our country in times of war, conflict and peace. We must never take their selflessness and bravery for granted. I invite everyone to join us at the Woodbridge Cenotaph as we pause to remember those who served, reflect on their legacy and ensure their contributions are never forgotten. Together, let us pay tribute to our veterans, active military members and their families. Lest we forget.”
- Mayor Steven Del Duca
