Mayor Steven Del Duca issued the following statement after the provincial announcement of the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network Demonstration Zone coming to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre:

“We are proud that the City of Vaughan, along with our partners at the City of Markham, were selected to receive $2.5 million in funding to bring a new Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network Demonstration Zone to our cities. This provides entrepreneurs, innovators and visionaries an exciting opportunity to safely test their automotive and smart mobility solutions in the real world.

“Vaughan’s new demonstration zone will support the advancement of technology to improve the way we move people and goods, all while generating new economic opportunities for Ontario-based businesses. Vaughan’s automotive sector is thriving, and I look forward to seeing what innovations will arise from this new initiative.

“I extend my thanks to Premier Doug Ford, Minister Vic Fedeli and the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network for seeing the potential in this program. I am excited to begin this partnership with our counterparts at the City of Markham, and driving forward the technologies of tomorrow. Today’s announcement proves that there’s no limit to what we can achieve when we work together.

“In Vaughan, innovation is in our DNA. Whether it’s our ambitious Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct with a vision to create an epicentre of health excellence, or this automotive and smart mobility demonstration zone that will showcase the future of transportation innovation, we are committed to building a brighter future for all our residents.”
