A day off school doesn’t have to mean a day without learning – or fun! The City of Vaughan is offering programs and camps during the upcoming PA Day on Friday, Oct. 20 for kids aged three to 14 at select community centres and at the Vaughan Studios & Event Space. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

Programs and camps include:

Cartoon Computer Animation (for ages six to 11)

Delivered in partnership with Kids Great Minds
Dive into STEAM and the creative world of cartoon animation! Bring your stories to life and learn the basics of animation design to experience what a great animator you can become! Learn how to storyboard, create short computer animated cartoons, television shows or movies while developing logical thinking skills. All animations will be sent to parents/guardians after completion of the program.

Seasonal Sweets: Halloween Bake a Treat. No tricks! (for ages seven to 12)

Mark the fall season with a delicious treat! Our budding young bakers will whip up something special (and sweet) while following safe kitchen practices. All required ingredients (which are nut-free) and supplies are provided.

Film Making (for ages nine to 14)
Delivered in partnership with Film Camp in a Box

Fill your PA Day with action, adventure and a lot of comedy in this film making workshop. Mentored by master filmmakers, participants will engage in hands-on exploration of the filmmaking process, including pre-production, production and post-production. Working in small crews, participants will learn about cinematography, script writing and editing. They will then create, act in and edit a short film and movie trailer. Participants will have the opportunity to use the latest technology, including Macbooks, 4K cameras, tripods, boom mics, green screens and an aerial drone. Everyone receives a copy of the finished product upon completion of the program.

Paint Your Own Pottery: Halloween Mug (for ages three to 14)

Delivered in partnership with Mess for Fun

Are you all fired up to create beautiful art on your day off school? Paint your own one-of-a-kind piece of pottery. Apply your unique artistic style with paint and leave your finished creative gem with us. Afterward, we will glaze and fire your pottery in a kiln. The completed masterpiece will be packaged and ready for pick-up the following week at your local community centre.

Roblox Game Design: Mario Galaxy (for ages nine to 14)
Delivered in partnership with Logic Fusion
Let's-a go! Jump into Roblox Studio to design your own Mario Galaxy-style game, creating brand new worlds you can play in with your friends and family! Build a Mario Galaxy-like 3D platform game where Mario will have to beat smart enemies, overcome obstacles and earn power-ups.

School’s Out! (for ages seven to 12)

Looking for a fun way to spend your PA Day? Enjoy a day of camp activities, including games, sports, arts and crafts, outdoor play and special events, while making new friends!

Train Like a Superhero! (for ages three to five)

Run as fast as Flash! Smash calories like She-Hulk! Jump as far as Spider-Man! Small but mighty superhero fans will have fun exercising to the movements (and powers!) of their favourite superheroes. They’ll build strength, better balance and co-ordination, and burn energy. Dressing like a superhero (wearing a costume) is optional but encouraged.
