Your guide to recycling in 2026

Starting today, Jan. 1, 2026, the Province of Ontario is now responsible for municipal blue box programs, which will be operated by Circular Materials

Good news – under this new system, your collection day and blue boxes will remain the same, with more items allowed to be recycled!

Here’s what you need to know:

Same bins

You are still able to use your current blue boxes. Vaughan residents will not receive carts. Miller Waste Systems, the company that Circular Materials has hired to pick up recycling in Vaughan, will continue to collect recyclables from the blue boxes you currently have.

Same collection day

Your collection schedule will not be affected; your recycling will continue to be picked up on the same day as your green bin organics and garbage.

Same waste collectors

Miller Waste Systems is the current collector of all waste materials in Vaughan. They will continue to pick up your blue box recycling, green bin organics and garbage on your regularly scheduled collection day.

Here’s what’s new:

New expanded list of accepted materials

The biggest change you will see is an expanded list of what can be recycled, which includes:

  • chip bags and food wrapping, including plastic and foil wrappers

  • deodorant stick containers

  • pet food bags

  • reusable pouches

  • Styrofoam™

  • toothpaste tubes and more!

For more information on accepted items, visit circularmaterials.ca/vaughan.

New customer service contact

Miller Waste Systems will facilitate all recycling-related service requests, including inquiries about:

  • broken or damaged bins

  • missed recycling collection

  • service delays

You can reach them by phone at 1-855-752-3762 or by email at area10@millerwaste.ca.

New truck

Previously, blue box recycling and green bin organics were collected on the same truck at the same time. Recycling collection will now be picked up on a separate truck. This means your blue box and green bin materials will be collected at separate times.

To ensure all your waste gets picked up, make sure your waste materials are always set out by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
