Register now: lessons and aquatic leadership courses start March 23

Learning how to swim is an important life skill everyone should have. This spring, the City of Vaughan is offering swim lessons and aquatic leadership courses starting on Saturday, March 23 – registration is now open!

Programs will take place at all community centre pools, except for the pool at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre, which remains closed due to ongoing renovations.

Learn-to-swim programming starts at ages four months old for parents with tots and runs up to levels specifically designed for adult non-swimmers. Training and certification in aquatic leadership courses for ages 13 years and older are aimed at preparing participants for employment as a swim instructor or lifeguard.

View the schedules at vaughan.perfectmind.com. The online registration system is available 24-7 and features enhanced search filters, allowing you to sort by level, location, day and time. Details can be found at vaughan.ca/swim

Backyard pool safety

A backyard pool can be an entertaining addition to a household, but it comes with risk and responsibility. Residential swimming pools are the most common location of drownings among children under five. Whether you are a pool owner, pool guest or a concerned guardian, it’s important to understand the hazards of backyard pools to avoid danger. The City will run a four-hour backyard pool safety clinic on Saturday, May 25 at Vellore Village Community Centre (1 Villa Royale Ave.) pool to provide training on water safety awareness, accident prevention, vigilance and safety supervision. Successful candidates will be recognized with an Ontario Lifesaving Society Safeguard Program certification. Register online at vaughan.perfectmind.com.
