Everything you need to know about on-street parking
Follow the rules so traffic, waste collectors and emergency vehicles can get through
Spring is here – and so are busier neighbourhood streets. That’s why we are reminding you about key on-street parking rules to help keep our communities safe and traffic moving.
Here’s what you need to know about on-street parking:
On-street parking is allowed, unless otherwise signed or prohibited by the Parking By-law 064-2019 (PDF):
for up to three hours without a permit between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
On-street parking is not allowed:
between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. without a permit.
within three metres (about 10 feet) of a fire hydrant.
if it obstructs traffic, road repair or snow removal.
directly opposite of a vehicle parked on the other side of a road that is less than nine metres (29.5 feet) wide.
within nine metres (29.5 feet) of an intersection (measured from where the curb curves into the intersection).
on any road that is less than six metres (about 19.5 feet) wide.
Avoid a fine
The fine for parking longer than three hours between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. is $60. The fine for parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.is $100 from Dec. 1 to March 31, and $65 from April 1 to Nov. 30.
In an emergency, every second matters. Blocking fire routes, fire department connections and fire hydrants can delay emergency fire response and may also result in a ticket and/or towing at the owner’s expense. The fine for parking in a fire route is $210.
The Parking By-law is enforced 24-7, all year long. Enforcement officers patrol the city issuing tickets for parking violations. Parking regulations may also be enforced by York Regional Police. To report a parking violation, call Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email the City’s By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permit Services team at bylaw@vaughan.ca.
Get a parking permit, not a ticket
The City offers three types of parking permits you can purchase:
Visitor Parking Permits – Residents may buy permits for their visitors to park on eligible city streets.
Construction Parking Permits – Residents may buy permits to park their vehicle(s) on eligible streets during construction projects or maintenance activities that prevent them from parking on their own driveway.
Resident Monthly Parking Permits – Residents may buy a limited number of monthly parking permits to park their vehicle(s) on streets in designated areas.
