Older Adults Can Apply for Snow Clearing Services in Vaughan

Winter is closer than you think! Before the first snowfall catches you off guard, take time to plan for snow clearing and arrange the support needed to stay safe and independent throughout the season. Older adults and their families can benefit from preparing early.

Community and Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS) is a non-profit organization that has been providing home and community support to older adults across York Region and South Simcoe since 1980. CHATS partners with the City of Vaughan each year to provide a Snow Clearing Program. This paid service connects older adults to pre-approved, insured service providers that clear driveways and walkways to the front or main door. The cost of snow clearing is subsidized by the City and paid for by the homeowner.

The service runs from Sunday, Nov. 15, 2026, until Thursday, April 15, 2027. It’s available to Vaughan residents aged 55 and older or with age-related illnesses, for up to a maximum of 150 residents this winter season. Additional subsidies are available based on the completion of a financial assessment.

As capacity is limited, early registration is encouraged and can be done by calling 1-866-677-9048, ext. 7669 (SNOW), emailing snow@chats.on.ca or applying online at chats.on.ca/snow.
