New technology tested as part of the OVIN Demonstration Zone in Vaughan

The City of Vaughan tested a new cutting-edge mobility solution as part of this cohort of the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) Demonstration Zone, which provides entrepreneurs, innovators and visionaries with an opportunity to safely test their automotive and smart mobility solutions in real-world environments.

An Ontario-based company was chosen from 20 submissions to participate in this round of the program, which is designed to demo potential solutions to address transportation challenges and improve the safe and effective movement of people and goods.

The demonstration is:

AI Road Infrastructure Monitoring and Inspection by ApoSys Technologies Inc.

  • This demonstration evaluated a technology-driven approach to road inspection and infrastructure monitoring using ApoSys Technologies Inc.’s RoadSight Vegetation AI. This AI-powered software solution combines technology such as video, satellite imagery, climate modeling and sensor data to analyze infrastructure conditions and vegetation growth. The system identifies obstructions, classifies infrastructure types, categorizes road conditions and forecasts maintenance needs.

About OVIN

OVIN is an initiative of the Government of Ontario, led by the Ontario Centre of Innovation, showcasing Ontario as a North American leader in advanced automotive technology and smart mobility solutions such as connected vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and electric and low-carbon vehicle technologies. Through resources such as research and development support, talent and skills development, technology acceleration, business and technical support, and demonstration grounds, OVIN provides a competitive advantage to Ontario-made automotive and mobility technology companies and is driving Ontario forward as a globally leading automotive and mobility jurisdiction.

The call for demonstration applications was fueled by $2.5 million in funding from the Government of Ontario through OVIN, awarded to the cities of Vaughan and Markham to develop automotive and mobility demonstration zones. The funding came as part of the Ontario government’s $56.4-million commitment over three years to support OVIN.

The OVIN Demonstration Zone offers startups, scaleups, and small- and medium-sized enterprises an opportunity to showcase their solution and leverage the support of key industry partners. Startups, scaleups and small- and medium-sized enterprises that may not have the resources to do so on their own will benefit from demonstrating and promoting their technologies to potential customers and industry partners.
