The City of Vaughan’s Recreation Services department is all about celebrating and furthering active aging. In 2025, we connected with 11 Vaughan residents (featured throughout this webpage) who regularly visit our community centres and participate in a range of City recreation programs — each one leading a healthy, engaged and vibrant life. These ageless and unstoppable individuals are living proof that age is just a number, and, together, we're redefining what it means to grow older with energy, purpose and joy.

A community that grows with you
Vaughan’s Age-Friendly Community Action Plan is a commitment in action, and the Recreation Services team has made meaningful strides to ensure you have access to inclusive, engaging and affordable recreational opportunities that support lifelong wellness. We’re always looking to introduce new and interesting programs while continuing to offer tried-and-true favourites at accessible price points. Continuing to look for opportunities to expand our partnerships means we can deliver specialized programming that meets the diverse needs of Vaughan’s older adult population. These efforts help combat ageism and reduce social isolation.
The existence of this webpage and its continued expansion is a reflection of our commitment. We’re making it easier for older adults like you to discover local clubs, programs, events, workshops and other special initiatives all in one place, giving you more ways to stay connected and engaged in your community.

"The City of Vaughan’s recreational programs have helped me with my purpose... These programs have allowed me to develop a community of friends and help build the camaraderie so essentially needed when one grows older."

Aquafitness
Stay strong, feel energized, and have fun in the water! Older adults can enjoy drop-in Aquafitness classes at a discounted rate — and if you’ve got a fitness membership, they’re completely FREE. It’s a great way to boost your strength, balance and cardio, all with low impact on your joints.
Aquafitness uses the water as resistance to increase muscle tone, strength and endurance. Classes are generally conducted in chest-deep water. Knowing how to swim is not a prerequisite. Classes are designed to allow you to work at your own pace and intensity.

Clubs and Other Activities
Clubs
Friendships, routines, and a sense of belonging — that’s what clubs offer. For many older adults in Vaughan, these clubs are more than just a place to gather — they’re a lifeline. Whether you’re playing cards, celebrating cultural traditions or catching up over coffee, being part of a club can add connection, joy and structure to your week. If you’re looking for ways to stay social and involved, there’s likely a club nearby ready to welcome you.
About SAVI
The Seniors Association of Vaughan Initiative (SAVI) is the umbrella organization that represents older adult clubs in Vaughan. With well over 4,000 members and growing, SAVI supports clubs across the city and helps foster a strong, connected community. SAVI also plans larger events like Seniorsfest and volunteer appreciation celebrations that bring everyone together.

Clubs in Operation
There are many active clubs throughout Vaughan, each offering something unique. Some of the clubs currently in operation include:

|
Interested in joining a club? Most clubs are open to new members and would be happy to meet you. You can reach out to a specific club or ask staff at your local community centre for help getting connected.
Thinking of starting a new club? That’s possible, too! You’ll need at least 50 members to apply, and Recreation Services staff can walk you through the process and help get things off the ground.
Bocce
Have fun with this low-impact indoor game that’s easy to pick up and enjoy at any age. Bocce is a great way to stay active without putting stress on your joints. It's the perfect activity to socialize, meet new people and have fun!
Not familiar with bocce? It’s a classic game with Italian roots where players take turns rolling balls toward a smaller target ball called the pallino. The goal is to get your ball as close to the pallino as possible (think lawn bowling, but with a twist)! It’s easy to learn, played at a relaxed pace, and full of friendly competition.
Annual bocce memberships are available at Chancellor, Dufferin Clark, Maple and Father E. Bulfon community centres.
OLDER ADULT (65 YEARS+) | FEE |
