Summer cleaning done right!
Crews continue maintenance of public spaces
There’s still time left to visit Vaughan’s parks, trails and public spaces this summer! The City of Vaughan’s Public Works crews work year-round to keep these shared spaces safe, clean and beautiful for everyone.
Here’s a snapshot of the services currently underway:
Litter cleanup continues in our parks, paths, trails, sidewalks, boulevards and garden beds across the city. Crews have collected 4,849 bags of litter so far this year.
Street sweeping is ongoing across Vaughan. The first two rotations of 2,200 lane-kilometres have been completed, and the third rotation began this month. This process keeps unwanted materials from flowing into stormwater drains and prevents pollution in our waterways, sewer backups and road flooding.
Forestry operations are ongoing, with 1,165 pruning requests, 488 removal requests and 1,581 service requests completed so far. Any hazards that need to be removed, such as fallen branches, are responded to in a priority sequence.
Road maintenance continues, with more than 2,561 potholes repaired this year.
Grass cutting across more than 200 parks takes place on a two-week rotation. More than 800 hectares of open spaces, such as boulevards and sports fields, are mowed multiple times throughout the season in priority sequence.
Gardens and landscaped areas are pruned, mulched, weeded, watered and cleaned up throughout the season.
Stormwater management pond maintenance and inspections are underway. Three rounds of litter cleanup and grass cutting will continue across more than 160 stormwater ponds in the community until October.
Pavement marking is underway, with 415,444 metres refreshed so far. The City implements new pavement markings and refreshes existing ones annually, including centrelines, lane lines, crosswalks, stop bars and directional arrows.
Fire hydrant inspections are underway, with 3,454 completed so far. Preventative maintenance and inspections are performed annually including flushing, leak testing, cap lubrication and part replacements.
Water valve inspections and exercising have begun, with 1,622 inspections completed so far. This proactive work ensures an efficient and reliable water distribution system.

Once a ticket has been created, staff will respond to requests in a priority sequence.
This summer, the City’s Public Works team received second place in the Ontario Parks Association’s2026 “Summer Ready” Photo Contest. The contest celebrates outstanding parks and greenspaces across Ontario. Vaughan was recognized for its Canada Leaf Turf Installation at North Maple Regional Park.
