New Recreation Guide Delivered This Week

The City of Vaughan’s 2011/2012 Fall & Winter Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan homes by July 30, along with City Playhouse Theatre and Doors Open Vaughan brochures.

The full-colour guide has many new features including colour-coded sections; redesigned recreational skating, sports and swimming schedules; a new layout for swimming lessons and leadership courses; and an index by community centre. A new digital guide with page-flipping and interactive features, including direct program links to online registration, can be viewed by clicking here. starting July 27.

There are more than 50 new programs at recreation facilities across the City. From baby sign language, robotics, computer programming, chess, and cooking to qigong, zumba, skating, tennis, volleyball, a dance academy, and special needs arts classes taught by a professional art therapist, there is something new to suit all ages, interests and abilities. The City Playhouse Theatre has also developed a line-up of original programs including graphic novel creation, photography, and stage craft, all delivered by industry professionals. The theatre is featuring a new playbill comprised of community and professional productions. 
 
Before and after school programs, December and March break camps, as well as pay-as-you-go and membership options for aquafitness, swimming, sports, skating, shinny hockey and fitness can be found in the guide. Information on community groups, seasonal recreation employment and volunteer opportunities is also listed. 
 
Vaughan’s outdoor amenities, including parks, trails and skating rinks are highlighted in the guide, as are holiday and community events where residents can enjoy free activities. Upcoming events include the official opening of City Hall in September, Culture Days on September 30 and October 1 and 2; Doors Open Vaughan on October 1 and 2; International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3; Winterfest on February 3; and Family Day on February 20. Tim Hortons’ sponsored skates will be offered throughout the December holiday break.
 
To encourage residents to stay active throughout the fall and winter, the Your Community section of the guide features special promotions including complimentary fitness, swim and skate passes, half-price recreational swims for children and youth and monthly giveaways at community centres.Starting soon, residents can register for fall and winter programs at the same time.
