Mayor Steven Del Duca issued the following statement today after the federal government announced their investment in York University’s School of Medicine:

“The City of Vaughan welcomes the Government of Canada’s investment in York University’s new School of Medicine through Budget 2026. I want to thank the federal government for recognizing the importance of investing in healthcare to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population.

“As one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities, Vaughan understands the need to strengthen healthcare services, create jobs, train the next generation of healthcare professionals and foster innovation that improves patient care. This investment advances each of those priorities. York University’s School of Medicine will be a transformative addition to the Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct, building on the momentum created by Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, Canada’s first smart hospital.

“Together, we are establishing Vaughan as a world-class destination for healthcare excellence, medical education and innovation.

“I look forward to continuing to work with our federal, provincial and institutional partners to advance this shared vision and build a healthier, brighter future for Vaughan.”
