City breaks ground on new park in the VMC
North Urban Park will be ready for play by the end of 2026
This week, the City of Vaughan celebrated another milestone in the development of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC), with the official groundbreaking of the first phase of its North Urban Park (70 New Park Place).
Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council took part in a special ceremony there to mark the start of construction of this $20-million project funded by the City.
North Urban Park will ultimately span over three city blocks and 3.18 hectares (approximately 7.8 acres) of open space in Vaughan’s downtown core. Located next to the KPMG Tower on New Park Place and a short walk from the VMC Subway Station and SmartVMC Bus Terminal, it will offer year-round recreational activities and cultural events for both residents and visitors of the VMC.
Once the first phase of construction is complete, the park will feature:
- an accessible playground for junior and senior play.
- a picnic area.
- a lawn for small events, performances and recreation.
- greenery and gardens.
- and more!
Construction is underway and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2026. Learn more at vaughan.ca/parks.
QUOTES
“Today’s groundbreaking marks another major milestone in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre — our city’s growing downtown core. North Urban Park represents a $20-million, City-led investment that will deliver a vibrant new public space featuring an accessible playground, picnic area, gardens and open green space for recreation and community events. Once completed in 2026, it will be one of the largest parks in the VMC. In Vaughan, we take great pride in investing in spaces that bring people together and help build a more active, engaged and connected community. My thanks to the City’s project team for their work from planning through to construction, and to Ward 4 Councillor Chris Ainsworth for his support of this important city-building project.”
