Vaughan will hold its annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 19

Chanukah is the festival of lights, and the City of Vaughan is marking this festive season with its annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony.

The community is invited to join Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council on Monday, Dec. 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall  to take part in this important event. Rabbi Kaplan of Chabad@Flamingo will preside over the ceremony, which will include a performance by the Shmuel Zahavy Cheder Chabad Boys Choir. Traditional refreshments will be available after the event.

Chanukah is an eight-day holiday celebrated each year by people of the Jewish faith. It is observed to commemorate the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem.

The candles used on the menorah are admired during the holiday and are not used in any other purpose. Placement of the menorah is usually near a window providing people on the outside an opportunity to share in blessings of the lights. The flame of the candle burns each night and serves as a time for reflection and thanks.

QUOTE
“The City of Vaughan’s Menorah Lighting Ceremony is a celebration of Chanukah, the festival of lights. The story of Chanukah is one of faith and the triumph of good over evil. For people of the Jewish faith, it represents an opportunity to gather, light the menorah and reflect on the year’s blessings. On behalf of my family and the City of Vaughan, I want to extend my best wishes during this Chanukah celebration for health, happiness and prosperity. Chag Chanukah Sameach!
