Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council recently presented a cheque totalling more than $143,000 to the Vaughan Health Care Foundation. The donated funds were raised from the 2010 Mayor's Annual Golf Classic. The cheque was accepted on behalf of the foundation by Board Chairman Sam Ciccolini and President and CEO Robert Baker.

"The generosity of our residents and businesses made this fundraising endeavour a great success," said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. "The need for a hospital in our City is widely recognized, as is the need to involve the community in raising the funds necessary to build it. This effort shows our community's commitment to bringing a new hospital to Vaughan."

The Vaughan Health Care Foundation is a volunteer charity which was established in 2004. Its mandate is to engage the community and raise funds supporting the creation of health care facilities and services, including a hospital, for the City of Vaughan.

"Many people contributed their time and effort to this worthy cause," said City Manager Clayton Harris. "They include the organizing committee, corporate sponsors, City staff and volunteers. This tournament has raised more than $950,000 net since 1999."
