Ditch and Culvert Maintenance
The Transportation and Fleet Management Services Department maintains and repairs ditches and culverts.
Ditches
Ditches are found at the side of rural and main roads and are used to drain water away from the road, carry collected water to a drain/pond and assist in snow-clearing operations by providing snow storage below the elevation of a road.
Culverts
The purpose of culverts is to access properties across ditches. Culverts are found in many rural properties or older subdivisions and are ditches that run beside or under a road or driveway. Culverts also provide excess water a place to collect and drain.
