Fire Education Programs

A certified fire inspector or fire safety educator will visit each kindergarten class in your school to deliver a brief presentation (20 minutes to 25 minutes) on firefighters as community helpers. During the session, students will actively participate in dressing their teacher as a firefighter and practice the appropriate actions to take in case of a fire.

A trained fire inspector or fire safety educator will visit every Grade 1 class in your school and do a brief presentation (15 minutes to 20 minutes) on fire safety, focusing on checking smoke alarms and making an effective escape plan. 

Each class will receive a fire safety scrapbook after the presentation. Students will take turns bringing the scrapbook home and completing a page with their families. During their designated turn, students will receive their own "Flat Sparky" to take home and further engage in fire safety education.

The Hazard House is an interactive and educational tool that simulates real-life fire scenarios in a controlled environment. The engaging experience covers various topics including electrical safety, fire escape plans and kitchen hazards. 

Complemented by age-specific presentations, this tool provides a memorable learning experience, empowering students with practical knowledge to identify and address potential hazards in a home setting. 

Typically, we set up in a library or other open room where we can remain for the day. We can take up to two classes for each presentation, which take approximately 30 minutes. Depending on your school's schedule, we can do seven to nine presentations a day.

If you are interested in a fire truck coming to your school or having your class visit a station, email firerescue@vaughan.ca and include the following information:

• School name and address
• Preferred date
• Time
• Event
• Number of students
• Ages of students (please note: firetruck visits are for students ages six and up)
• Contact number

  • Fire truck visits can accommodate up to 30 students at a time with a 1:8 adult-to-child ratio.
  • Fire station visits can accommodate up to 10 students at a time with a 1:5 adult-to-child ratio. 
  • Visits are generally one hour long. In an emergency, the visit will have to end. Please inform your students of this possibility before the scheduled visit.

This program is designed to empower and protect older adults in our community. The presentation focuses on educating seniors about fire prevention, fall prevention and safe evacuation practices. Ideal for seniors’ groups and retirement living facilities.

The program aims to enhance awareness and create a secure living environment in our vertical communities, from evacuation procedures to fire prevention tips.

Installing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and learning their importance are the two most critical steps in reducing the risk of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. That is why VFRS is happy to offer this free program where firefighters visit homes and check the placement and operation of current alarms.
