City of Vaughan
Maria-Eva Cristante recognized for commitment to volunteerism in Vaughan
Today, during a special virtual ceremonial presentation in the Committee of the Whole (2) meeting, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Ward 1 Councillor Marilyn Iafrate and Members of Council presented Maria-Eva Cristante with the 2020 Ward 1 Civic Hero Award.
As a devoted volunteer, Maria-Eva has supported many community organizations in Vaughan, including St. David Parish, the Valigia d'Oro and the Maple Health Centre, where she assists with delivering mass for the residents.
In 2001, Maria-Eva joined the Maple Pioneer Seniors Club – a social club for older adults of Italian heritage, which provides recreation and excursions for its members. She was elected Vice-President in 2002, and, in 2003, she became President – a position she currently holds.
Maria-Eva has served as a Minister of the Eucharist at St. David's Parish, where she delivered communion during mass. She also participated in the World-Wide Marriage Encounter – Italian Sector, offering support to newly-married couples.
“In Vaughan, we are grateful for citizens like Maria-Eva Cristante, who dedicate their time to help people when they need it most. I have known Maria-Eva for many years and have seen first-hand her whole-hearted dedication to giving back in a very meaningful way. She is an individual that lives her life at a higher frequency, guided by the noble values of compassion, hope and service above self. I want to congratulate Maria-Eva on this much-deserved award and express my warmest and sincerest gratitude for her role in making Vaughan the place to be.”
- Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua
On behalf of the residents of Ward 1, I am honoured to recognize Maria-Eva Cristante as the 2020 Ward 1 Civic Hero. As an inspirational leader, Maria-Eva initiated programs reviving lost cultural hobbies and family games while fostering understanding, respect, and appreciation for both the young and old. We are fortunate to have kind-hearted citizens like Maria-Eva in Vaughan who contribute to the high quality of life we are proud to offer. Thank you, Maria-Eva, for all that you do for our community and congratulations on receiving this award.”
