Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm

Responsibilities:

  1. Implement facility and community-based activities for the adult day program that foster specific functional skills, independence, community integration, self-advocacy, and development of self-care skills.

  2. Prepare detailed modifications of session lesson plans, schedules and community outings based on participant’s needs. 

  3.  Monitors program operational budget and deliver the service in a cost-effective manner. 

  4.  Ensure that participants are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive active instruction to develop skills in program area(s).

  5. Assist supervisor in training, coaching, and evaluation of staff and ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.

  6. Attend INTAKES, maintain complete individual records and behavioural data, parent releases, emergency contacts, and all other departmental required documents.

  7. Complete incident and accident reports and maintain behaviour data log for each participant. 

  8.  Liaise with YR Mobility Plus and prepare letters for participants transportation, coordinate program guests. 

  9.  Maintain a clean and attractive program facility area. 

  10.   Collaborate with staff, parents and participants to maintain and environment that supports individual needs, develops alternate skills in a safe environment. 

  11. Collects data and collaborates with the supervisor and professionals in developing behavioural management plans for the program participants. 

  12.   Ensures the safety and well-being of the participants by minimizing risks through verbal re-direction and behaviour management interventions. 

  13.  Ensure quality of program implementation through active participation, leadership, and public relations. 

  14. Attend and actively participate in staff debriefing meetings.

  15. Assists the supervisor with the evaluation of the program and participants on an ongoing basis. 

  16.   Maintain a professional attitude and abide by policies and procedures at all times. 

  17.  Assist with personal care (toileting, feeding) as well as maneuvering as needed. 

  18.  Carry out any other administrative duties as required. 

Qualifications and requirements

  1. Must have completed 1-2 years education degree in a related filed from and accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience in planning and implementing activities based on the developmental needs of adults with special needs, or experience in working with adults with disabilities and challenging behaviours. 
  2. Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification.
  3. Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
  4. Experience providing personal care and maneuvering techniques. 
  5. Ability to swim.
  6. Current Safe Management certification/Non-Violent Crisis Prevention certification.
  7. High Five, Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
  8. Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
  9. Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  10. Proven ability to prepare reports, communicate effectively both orally and in writing
