Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a specialized program for persons with disabilities in a safe and enjoyable manner.
- Provide support to parents and participants to help create an environment that will support individual participant’s needs, allowing them to develop skills and self-esteem alongside their peers.
- Develop program lesson plans in consultation with the Active Living Coordinator for Special Needs and Volunteers.
- Implement a safe, enjoyable, diverse and adapted program to enhance participant’s self-esteem and socialization.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants and assist staff during work hours.
- Maintain ongoing and effective communication with participants, parents/care givers and all City of Vaughan Staff.
- Ensure attendance is taken accurately.
- Provide toileting, emotional support and behaviour management as needed.
- Maintain supply and equipment inventory.
- Attend all program relating trainings and meetings.
- Maintain a professional attitude and abide by City of Vaughan policies and procedures at all times.
- Encourage and foster in all participants the 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development as outlined by High Five: Quality at Play.
Qualifications and requirements
- College or University student currently enrolled in Social Work education, Recreation related discipline, or equivalent knowledge and experience; OR previous experience working with individuals with special needs.
- Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification.
- Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Safe Management certification/Non-Violent Crisis Prevention certification.
- Possess a valid driver’s licence and have access to a reliable vehicle.
