Responsibilities:

  1. Planning and preparing music lessons in relation to the needs of individual students with disabilities.
  2. Teaching fundamental principles of music theory, aural skills, and practical music skills.
  3. Adapt and implement music activities ensuring that programming is fit to individual needs in collaboration with the Special Needs and Volunteer Specialist when appropriate.
  4. Collaborate with parents and participants to help create an environment that supports individual participant’s needs, allowing them to develop skills and self-esteem within the program.
  5. Ensure the safety and well-being of a participant with special needs by evaluating situations for potential risks throughout the camp program.
  6. Ensure that all documentation and session end reports are completed as required.

Qualifications and requirements

  1. College or University student currently enrolled in Music-related discipline, or equivalent knowledge and experience.

  2. Strong skills in musical instrument proficiency, background in music theory and musicianship.

  3. Previous experience working with individuals with special needs.

  4. Knowledge of adaptive programming skills and problem-solving skills.

  5. Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification.

  6. Willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Screening from an accredited Police Service prior to employment. 

  7. Safe Management certification/Non-Violent Crisis Prevention certification.

  8. High Five, Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
