Improving local parks and play spaces – for you!

Get ready to run, play, splash, swing and slide at one of our local parks or playgrounds this summer – many of which have been revitalized! 

The City of Vaughan’s Parks Infrastructure Planning and Development department continues to expand and make improvements to parks, playgrounds, sports fields, sports courts, splashpads, walking paths and more, to create welcoming outdoor zones that safely bring the community together, foster physical activity and offer residents an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. 

Below are some City parks that have been recently enhanced or are currently undergoing improvements:

WARD 1

Progress continues at North Maple Regional Park (11067 Keele St.)! Construction of the City’s first cricket field within the park is complete, including lighting and irrigation. Artistic signage and wayfinding have been added throughout the park. Work is underway to restore the pond and expand the wetland area, with final planting nearing completion. In addition, the existing park driveway will be expanded to include a second park entrance with access to Keele Street and a new traffic signal at the park’s north entrance will be installed.

Playground reconstruction will begin at Killian-Lamar Parkette (108 Mathewson St.) this fall, while work to add a paved pathway connection to the valley is expected to begin in late spring. 

WARD 2

The artificial turf soccer fields at both Vaughan Grove Sports Park (7401 Martin Grove Rd.) and Sonoma Heights District Park (100 Sunset Ridge) will be open this spring for soccer clubs to use and public programming. At Vaughan Grove Sports Park, completed improvements include the conversion from grass to an artificial turf field, new players and referee benches and shelters, an asphalt walkway around the new field for players, backstop fencing behind the goals and an upgraded score board panel. At Sonoma Heights District Park, the existing artificial turf field was replaced and a new scoreboard is being installed.

Throughout 2024, improvement work will continue on the pedestrian bridge and the asphalt walkway trail in Rainbow Creek Park (5450 Highway 7). Construction for the new storm water management ponds is expected to begin later this year and continue into 2025. The tennis courts will be reconstructed following the south pond completion, near Highway 7.

Playground reconstruction will begin this fall at Parwest Parkette (74 Beechnut Rd.). Pathway improvements and a shade structure replacement will be undertaken at Crofter’s Park (225 Crofters Rd.), and work to renew the basketball court at Wilson Century Theatre Park (20 Milano Ave.) is anticipated to begin this year. The basketball and tennis courts at Sunset Ridge Park (533 Napa Valley Ave.) will undergo improvements this year. 

WARD 3

Playground improvements are proposed for Blue Willow Parkette (99 Blue Willow Dr.) including new junior and senior playground equipment and a shade structure. The playground and tennis courts will be replaced at George Stegman Park (460 Aberdeen Ave.) later this year. The playgrounds at both Jersey Creek Park (137 Andrea Lane) and Aberdeen Parkette (100 Aberdeen Ave.) were recently upgraded.

WARD 4

The long-awaited trail underpass beneath the Barrie-Toronto GO line in Langstaff Park (2001 Langstaff Rd.) will re-open for public use later this summer. Tennis court reconstruction at Southview Park (1 Southview Dr.), Ohr Menachem Park (55 Autumn Hill Blvd.) and Mosswood Park (641 Thornhill Woods Dr.) is expected to begin this fall. One tennis court at Le Parc Park (172 Connie Cres.) will be converted to four dedicated pickleball courts this fall.

WARD 5

Playground redevelopments will begin this spring at Bathurst Estates Park (99 Campbell Ave.), Worth Park (270 Worth Blvd.), Jean Augustine District Park (101 Westmount Blvd.) and Winding Lane Park (580 York Hill Blvd.). Playground reconstruction is underway at Dufferin District Park (1441 Clark Ave. W.) and Gilmore Park (60 Gilmore Cres.), while playground reconstruction projects will begin at Promenade Green Park (25 Carl Tennan St.) and Mill Arbour Park (20 Mill Arbour Lane) in September.  The improved playground at Gallanough Park(21 Springfield Way) has recently opened, and pathway improvements, new fitness equipment and a shade structure replacement are coming this year.

These local park projects add to the growing list of outdoor greenspaces the City has created and enhanced for you to enjoy.
