Register for Vaughan’s career-focused summer camps

 

Are you eager to apply for a part-time job but aren’t sure how to write a resume? Or perhaps you want to strengthen your leadership skills for future employment opportunities. We’re here to help! The City of Vaughan is offering programming and summer camps designed for youth to gain the experience and training they need to get a part-time job.

 

There are several opportunities to explore:

 

Resume Building and Interview Skills (for ages 13 to 16 years old)

Need help writing a resume? Want to perfect your job interviewing skills? The City has you covered! This three-day session at North Thornhill Community Centre (300 Pleasant Ridge Ave.) is designed to assist participants in building their resumes and developing strong interview skills so you can land your dream job. Counsellor in Training (for ages 15 to 16 years old)

Are you interested in pursuing a leadership role working with children, creating imaginative crafts and playing exciting games? This course offers five days of theoretical training followed by a two-week, hands-on placement at a Vaughan summer camp to prepare you for a job as a school break camp counsellor. Participants will earn valuable, nationally recognized certifications, including HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development and Standard First Aid and CPR-C. 

 

Upon competition of the full program, participants will also receive up to 80 volunteer hours for the two-week camp placement and an interview with the City for a camp counsellor position next season.

Learning to Lead (for ages 12 to 14 years old)

Want to learn leadership skills that can be applied anywhere, including at school and future jobs? Gain practical skills during workshops focused on problem-solving, team building and child-centred learning. Participants will learn to lead by influence in real life and will develop and implement an activity for young campers to enjoy at an existing Vaughan summer camp. Please note, this is a theoretical and recreational program only, a site placement is not included.
