School crossing guards are an important part of the city of Vaughan community. These dedicated individuals work every school day to assist children walking across intersections throughout Vaughan.

Help keep students and crosswalks safe with this rewarding job!
This important role helps children and families safely travel to and from school each day. The City has crossing guards who have been employed for 20, 25 and even 30 years! Some benefits include:
- regular, part-time hours.
- weekends, holidays and summers off.
- early morning and afternoon hours, leaving the bulk of the day free for other activities.
- up to three shifts per day – one in the morning, one at lunch and one in the afternoon; however, only about 10 per cent of locations have a lunch shift, most only have two shifts per day.
- varying shift times between 35 to 90 minutes depending on location.
With 119 crosswalk locations throughout Vaughan, both permanent and standby crossing guards are needed to service all locations. The City recruits, trains and hires crossing guards, conducts pedestrian studies, selects crosswalk locations and installs appropriate signage and pavement markings.
