The use of any City of Vaughan hydrant without approval from the City, and without use of a hydrant meter rented from the City, is unlawful and prohibited. Any contractor that wishes to use water from a hydrant for construction purposes must complete a Hydrant Meter Rental Application (PDF). The application form can be filled out online. 
 
Once an application is submitted and approved, the applicant will be contacted for payment processing. Approval may take up to three to five business days.
 

Payments can be made by credit card by phone, or in person at the Joint Operations Centre using in to our office to pay via business cheque, debit, credit or cash.

JOC hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Hydrant meter rental charges

Hydrant meters can be rented from March 31 to Oct. 31, annually (weather permitting).

Installations/retrievals and relocations are to be performed strictly by a licensed City of Vaughan water operator.

​Consumption (effective April 1, 2019, in accordance with Water Rates and Service Fees By-law 022-2019 (PDF) and WasteWater Rates and Service Fees By-law 021-2019 (PDF).

Is taking water from a hydrant without permission legal?

No. Taking water from a hydrant without permission is not legal. The City of Vaughan is committed to providing safe and clean drinking water to all citizens and businesses. The City will investigate all incidents of water theft from fire hydrants. To report illegal connections, please call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.
