With the ever-growing road network, and the increased amount of vehicular traffic, it was recognized that additional winter operation mobilization sites were necessary in order to meet the expectations of our residents, and our service level requirements as regulated by the province.

The City operates 3 winter operation yards.  From these yards, our forces are dispatched to salt, plow and maintain over 2,200 lane kilometers of roads and over 800 kilometers of sidewalks.

1. Joint Operations Centre

The Maple yard is located at 2800 Rutherford Road, where the Public Works Department is based.  The Public Works Department, along with the Parks and Forestry Operations, use this yard to deploy crews to address the needs of Maple, Kleinburg and surrounding area.  This yard has 2 domes, both capable of holding 6,000 tonnes of salt, and room for over 50 snow ploughing, salting and windrow vehicles.  The Parks & Forestry Operations have 9 sidewalk ploughs/salters based here.

2. Woodbridge Yard

The Woodbridge yard is located at 4630 Langstaff Road, as is considered a satellite office.  The Public Works Department, along with the Parks & Forestry Operations, use this yard to deploy crews to address the needs of Woodbridge, Kleinburg and the surrounding areas.  This yard has 1 dome capable of holding 4,000 tonnes of salt, and room for over 50 snow ploughing, salting ad windrow vehicles.  The Parks & Forestry Operations have 9 sidewalk ploughs/salters based here.

3. Dufferin Yard

The Dufferin yard is located at 8000 Dufferin Street, and is the City's second satellite office.  The Public Works Department, along with the Parks and Forestry Operations, use this yard as a base to maintain the needs of Thornhill, Concord and the surrounding areas.  This yard has 1 dome, capable of holding 4,000 tonnes of salt, and room for over 50 snow ploughing, salting and windrow vehicles.  The Parks & Forestry Operations have 11 sidewalk ploughs/salters based here.
