The City of Vaughan collects large appliances and metal items by appointment only. This service is available only to Vaughan residents. Commercial-sized appliances and non-residential establishments are not eligible for this service. To avoid the collection fee, residents may seek alternate disposal options.
   
Residents living in condominiums or apartments serviced by the City must book appointments through their property manager.

Fees

  • A service fee of $39 (taxes included) per appliance applies. 
  • An administration fee of $6 per appliance applies to all approved cancellations and refunds​ (PDF).
  • Prices are subject to change​.

Booking and payment options

When to book
Appointments booked prior to noon on Tuesday will take place on Thursday of the same week.  Appointments booked after noon on Tuesday will occur on Thursday of the following week. 

By phone

  • Call the City of Vaughan at 905-832-2281 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • Accepted phone payments: Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Refund policy

Cancellations are accepted if made by noon the day before the scheduled collection. For scheduled pick up on Thursday, a refund request must be received on Wednesday before noon. Requests for cancellations or refunds that are not made within the requested timeframe will not be accepted and no refund will be granted. Appliance(s) must be set out according to the City's Waste Collection By-law 135-2017.
 
An administration fee of $6 per appliance applies to all approved cancellations and refunds​ (PDF). 

Set-out requirements

Appliance and metal items should be placed at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before the collection appointment date and no later than 7 a.m. on the day of the appointment. Fines may be charged for non-compliance.
 
For safety reasons, please remove the doors of fridges, stoves, freezers and lockable large appliances.

Acceptable items

  • air-conditioning units
  • barbecues, tanks removed
  • bathtubs (metal)
  • dehumidifiers
  • dishwashers
  • dryers
  • fireplace inserts
  • freezers
  • furnaces
  • hot water tanks (metal), drained
  • humidifiers
  • metal pipes, disassembled, not exceeding 1.5 metres in length
  • oil tanks or drums, emptied
  • pool heaters, filter medium removed (i.e. sand)
  • push lawn mowers or push snow blowers (electric gas or manual), liquids removed
  • range hood fans
  • refrigerators
  • stoves
  • swing sets, disassembled, not exceeding 1.5 metres in length
  • washing machines
  • water pressure tanks
  • water softeners (metal), filter medium removed (i.e. salt)
  • water coolers (metal)
  • any other item designated as a large metal resource item (please call Environmental Services with any questions about the item)

Alternative disposal options

If the appliance is in good working order, consider donating it to a charity or family in need. Appliances can also be taken to one of York Region’s Community Environmental Centres. Retail outlets for new appliances often have take-away options for old appliances when new units are purchased. Alternatively, private scrap metal dealers (search online) offer collection services.
