Are chimineas legal in Vaughan?
The City of Vaughan allows the use of outdoor wood-burning fireplaces commonly referred to as chimineas. It is the occupant’s responsibility to ensure the fireplace or chiminea is being used appropriately and safely. The use of outdoor wood-burning fireplaces or chimineas is governed under Article 2.6.3.4. of the Ontario Fire Code and the City of Vaughan’s open air Fire Burn By-law 50-94 (PDF).

Read more about how to obtain a residential or commercial fire burn permit.

Why did I receive a notice of false alarm?
False alarms cost everyone. Each year, VFRS responds to hundreds of alarms where the cause, upon investigation, is found to be either poor installation/maintenance of the alarm system, a failure to notify the fire department of work/testing being performed on the system, or a maliciously activated fire alarm. Aside from the undue cost to taxpayers, false alarms also delay response times to a real emergency.

To help avoid this, VFRS will charge a penalty fee for the third false alarm in a calendar year due to equipment malfunction, preventable cause and/or malicious intent. Please see the False Alarm By-law 72-2005 (PDF) and fee service list (PDF).

Does VFRS charge a service fee for responding to a motor vehicle accident?
The City of Vaughan charges fees for services provided by VFRS for response to emergency and non-emergency incidents. Please see the False Alarm By-law 72-2005 (PDF) and fee service list (PDF).
