The Heritage Vaughan Committee is a statutory advisory committee appointed by Council every four years. The Committee is Vaughan’s Municipal Heritage Committee as defined by Section 28 of the Ontario Heritage Act. The establishment of a municipal heritage committee enables a municipality to have community participation in local heritage conservation. Heritage Vaughan was first established in 1977 and has a statutory role in advising Council. It is recognized as a vehicle for coordinating and conveying community concerns regarding heritage conservation activities. Heritage Vaughan reviews all Heritage Permit applications, development and demolition applications effecting Designated, Registered or Listed heritage property.Heritage Vaughan reviews Heritage Permit applications as it relates to significant changes to buildings and property located in Vaughan’s heritage conservation districts or individually designated buildings. Additionally, Heritage Vaughan reviews the demolition request of heritage buildings which are listed in the City’s inventory of heritage structures.The Heritage Vaughan Committee meets on the third Wednesday of every month.
