Academy Courses: City Playhouse Theatre
The City Playhouse Academy provides theatre and dance programs that develop all aspects of live theatre and dance skills.
Access and Privacy
Accessibility
It is the goal of the City of Vaughan to create an accessible community by 2025. The Accessibility Plan and the Accessibility Policy are tools to help the City achieve that goal. The Plan and Policy identify how the City will create a barrier-free community with universal access to its programs, services and facilities.
Active Together
The Active Together Physical Activity Strategy is a component of Vaughan's ten-year Active Together Master Plan for the provision of parks, recreation, culture and library facilities and services.
Adult Programs
The adult program area is committed to the provision of high end, trend setting programs for individuals 18 years+, which are of good value, provide expert instruction, and operate at convenient times and locations. Through the delivery of specialized recreational programs, adult participants will learn new skills, meet new people, and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
Al Palladini Community Centre
Located at the south-east corner of Islington Avenue and Rutherford Road, the Al Palladini Community Centre boasts a fitness centre, indoor track, indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, activity rooms, and 2 indoor arenas. Drop-in and registered recreational programming are provided.
Al Palladini Pool
The Al Palladini Pool is a 25-metre, 6-lane lap pool. Features include a whirlpool, a Tarzan rope for swinging and a convenient upper level viewing gallery. The pool is also equipped with accessible ramps for easy access and large change rooms – including a family change room.
Animal Licensing
If you own a dog or cat in the City of Vaughan, you must ensure that your pet wears the numbered metal tag provided through the City's licensing system. Pet licences must be renewed prior to January 1st of each year to ensure that your pet's information is kept up to date.
Animal Services
Vaughan Animal Services offers cat and dog licensing, by-law enforcement (including barking complaints), and pick up of stray sick or injured cats and dogs. Animal Control Officers may issue tickets or summons to appear in court and they have the authority to impound stray animals.
Appliances
Curbside residential waste collection program requirements specfic to large appliances/metal items and alternative disposal options for same.
Aquafitness
This program uses the water as resistance to increase muscle tone, strength, and endurance. Knowing how to swim is not a requirement for programs offered in chest deep water.
Aquatic Programs
Group, semi-private and private learn to swim programs, leadership and certification training courses (lifeguards and swim instructors), Vaughan Lifesaving Club, aquafitness, and recreational swims are provided as part of Vaughan's aquatic programming.
Archives
The City of Vaughan Archives is a municipal government business unit that manages government records which document important municipal policies, programs, decisions, allocations, functions, and activities. The Archives also collects, preserves, and makes available for research permanently valuable non-government records from the Vaughan community which document the rich and diverse heritage of the City of Vaughan.
Arenas
City of Vaughan arenas and outdoor rinks provide indoor and outdoor skating facilities during fall and winter, offering drop-in recreational skating and shinny hockey, and skating lessons.
Art and Culture
Cultural Services delivers arts and culture events, exhibitions and shows for the community, including those at the City Playhouse Theatre.

Backflow Prevention Program
The City of Vaughan’s Backflow Prevention Program and the Backflow Prevention By-law 004-2018 (PDF) is designed to protect the City of Vaughan’s water system to safeguard the quality of water being delivered to businesses and residents. This is done by the installation of a Backflow Prevention Device that prevents discharge of contaminating substances into the drinking water system.

Boulevard Maintenance
The Transportation Services, Parks and Forestry Operations Department is responsible for the maintenance of municipal walkways, pathways as well as municipally owned boulevards along roadways that are not in front of, or adjacent to private property.
Bowling
Bowling is available for parties and/or family drop in at the Maple Community Centre. 4 lanes of 5-pin, glow-in-the-dark fun await!

Budgets
Each year, the City of Vaughan passes a budget to determine how funds will be spent. The Property Tax Budget and the Water, Wastewater and Stormwater Budgets are discussed at the same time. The Finance, Administration and Audit Committee discusses the draft budget and listens to resident input during a series of meetings. After that, the budget goes to a Special Council Meeting for approval.

By-law Enforcement
By-law Enforcement investigates issues concerning violations relating to more than 40 By-laws, including the Property Standards By-law, Zoning By-law and Debris By-law. Staff investigate thousands of complaints per year. Investigations conducted by this unit are mainly driven by complaints.
Call Out to Artists
Artists can participate in new programs and initiatives through upcoming call outs to artists and art groups.
Camps
The Recreation & Culture Department is committed to offering each camper a safe, high quality summer camp experience. Day camps provide opportunities for campers to laugh, learn, and form friendships and lifelong memories.
Canada Day
Canada Day is celebrated on July 1st each year with free headline concerts, an Inflatable Zone, displays, exciting activities for all ages, an official welcome by Mayor and Members of Council and great food for purchase.
Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program
Canadian Tire Jumpstart® is a community-based charitable program that helps kids aged 4-18 participate in organized sports and recreation such as hockey, dance, soccer and swimming, so they can develop important life skills, self esteem and confidence.
Cancellation Policy
The City of Vaughan reserves the right to cancel any program due to low registration or for unforeseen circumstances. A full refund will be issued.

Chancellor Community Centre
Located at the corner of Chancellor Drive and Ansley Grove Road, the Chancellor Community Centre boasts an indoor swimming pool, multipurpose room, activity rooms, bocce courts, and a library. Drop-in and registered recreational programming are provided.
Chancellor Pool
The Chancellor Pool is a 25-metre, 4-lane lap pool, ideal for therapy, aquafitness and novice swimmers. Features include a whirlpool, large change rooms – including a family change room - and an upper level viewing gallery.
Children's Art Tax Credit
The Government of Canada offers a non-refundable tax credit on eligible amounts of up to $500 paid by parents to register a child (under the age of 16) in a prescribed program of artistic, cultural, recreational or development activity.
Children's Fitness Tax Credit
The Government of Canada offers a non-refundable tax credit on eligible amounts of up to $500 paid by parents to register a child (under the age of 16) in an eligible program of physical activity.
Childrens Programs
The children’s program area is dedicated to delivering an array of specialized programs for participants, aged 6-12 years old, that are comprehensive and progressive in nature. Through the provision of a mix of programs, ranging from performing arts to science and technology, children have the opportunity to acquire new skills, make friends, gain an appreciation for the arts, and build a foundation for an active and healthy lifestyle.

The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is held at City Hall in celebration of the Christmas holiday season.

On the SLATE: The City Hall Atrium Gallery located in the main atrium at Vaughan City Hall features changing exhibitions that profile arts and culture in Vaughan.
City Playhouse Theatre
The City Playhouse Theatre offers family entertainment in York Region, featuring professional and community shows as well as educational programming and performing arts training classes from beginners to pros.

Commitee of Adjustment
The Committee of Adjustment, which is made up of five (5) local residents who are appointed by Council, usually holds a Public Hearing every two weeks to hear submissions either in support of, or in opposition to applications for either Minor Variances or Consents (severances) submitted by the Applicant and/or Agent.

Drop-In Activities
Local community centres offer a variety of drop-in recreational sports for children, youth and adults. Adult activities may include: ball hockey, volleyball, basketball, badminton, bowling and Euchre. Youth/Children's annual memberships include access to youth rooms and youth drop-in activities such as basketball, open gym, lunch program and special needs drop-in.
Dufferin Clark Community Centre
Located at the south-east corner of Dufferin Avenue and Clark Avenue in Concord, the Dufferin Clark Community Centre boasts an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, activity rooms, bocce courts, outdoor skating rink, outdoor splash pad, and a library. Drop-in and registered recreational programs are offered.
Dufferin Clark Pool
The Dufferin Clark Pool is a 25-metre, 5-lane, 14-ft deep, rectangular-shaped lap pool with an additional family play area. Features include 3-metre and 1-metre diving boards, a two-storey deep end water slide, water fountain, and whirlpool. The pool is also equipped with accessible ramps for easy access, large change rooms – including a family change room - and a ground level viewing gallery with floor to ceiling windows for clear visibility.

Emergency Planning
The Emergency Planning program is responsible for protecting and promoting public safety through prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery initiatives that comply with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and its Regulations. Environmental Sustainability
Environmental Sustainability is responsible for championing the implementation of Green Directions Vaughan, the City's Community Sustainability and Environmental Master Plan. Environmental Sustainability works in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to achieve a healthy natural environment, vibrant communities and a strong economy. This is achieved through support for residents and businesses resulting in increased awareness and local action on key environmental issues. A number of annual City celebrations are held including Winterfest, Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony, Concerts in the Park, Canada Day, Festive Celebrations and more.
Extended Day Camp
Extended Day Camp (EDC), a before and after camp program with a ratio of 1:12, is available from 7:30-9:00am, and 4:00-6:00pm. Campers are transported to their camp location by camp staff on camp buses (if applicable), and participate in supervised recreational activities that include sports and games.

Father E. Bulfon Community Centre
Located on Martin Grove Road north of Highway #7 in Woodbridge, the Father E. Bulfon Community centre boasts a fitness centre, indoor swimming pool, multipurpose room, activity rooms, bocce courts, and an outdoor skating rink. Drop-in and registered recreational programs are offered.

The Father Ermanno Bulfon Pool is a leisure pool, ideal for aquafitness and novice swimmers. Features include a circular whirlpool on deck and viewing gallery.
Festive Celebrations
Annual celebrations include the annual Menorah Lighting and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies and Toy Drive.

Fitness Centres
Vaughan Fitness Centres: Close. Convenient. Comfortable. Five locations offer a variety of accessible options: cardio & strength training equipment; squash & racquetball courts; aquafitness, swimming pools & whirlpools; spinning & fitness classes with yoga, zumba & pilates; and indoor tracks. The new Vellore Village Fitness Centre will open in early 2013.
Fitness Centres (Hours)
Fitness centres are open 7 days per week. On weekdays, most centres are open as early as 5:30am, and close as late as 10:30pm. Most centres are open on the weekends from 7am to 6:30pm.
Fitness Classes
City of Vaughan offers a wide variety of fitness classes for all levels! Fitness classes are included with your fitness membership fee or are available as a registered program. Available classes include Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Boot Camp and Cycling among many, many others.
Flower Pot and Hanging Basket
The Parks and Forestry Operations Department, Horticulture Division, installs and maintains flower planters and hanging baskets throughout the City of Vaughan seasonally.

Futsal (Lessons)
Futsal is the only indoor game sanctioned by FIFA and is recognized as a premier form of indoor soccer. Fair play and sportsmanship are the core values of this program. Located on Clark Avenue just east of Bathurst Street, the Garnet A. Williams Community Centre boasts a fitness centre, indoor track, indoor swimming pool, multipurpose room, activity rooms, indoor arena, and an outdoor skating rink. Drop-in and registered recreational programming are provided.

The Garnet A. Williams Pool is 25-metre, 3-lane leisure pool with a stepped beach entry into a shallow water play area for the whole family to enjoy. The City of Vaughan Parks and Forestry Operations Department operates a 24 hour hotline to report incidents of suspicious activity, acts of vandalism, loitering and illegal use of city property.

Heavy Load & Wide Load Permits
The City restricts heavy vehicle traffic on certain City roads designated as “Half Load Restriction Year Round”. A special permit may be issued by the City's Transportation Services, Parks and Forestry Operations Department for the moving of heavier and / or larger vehicle loads than those allowed.

Juried Art Exhibition

Maple Community Centre
Located at 10190 Keele Street, the Maple Community Centre offers a wide variety of amenities including but not limited to: swimming pool, fitness centre, arena, bocce courts, games room, bowling alley, gymnasium, preschool areas, activity/meeting rooms and a library.
Maple Pool
The Maple Pool is a 25-metre, 4-lane lap pool with a shallow area of less than one metre - great for families with young children - with a maximum depth of just over 2 metres. Features include a twisting water slide, change rooms – including a family change room - and a ground level viewing gallery.

Master Plan
The “Active Together” Master Plan is an integrated long-term strategy that guides planning for parks, recreation, culture and library facilities and services until the City’s ultimate build-out. North Thornhill Community Centre
Located on Pleasant Ridge Avenue just north of Rutherford Road, the North Thornhill Community centre boasts a fitness centre, aerobics studio, cycle studio, indoor swimming pool, multipurpose room, activity rooms, art studio, and a splash pad. Drop-in and registered recreational programming are provided.
North Thornhill Pool
The North Thornhill Pool is a new aquatic facility, offering two pools: a 25-metre, 6–lane lap pool with a state-of-the-art timing system and a small pool ideal for younger swimmers with a stepped beach entry into a shallow water play area with mushroom/lemon drop sprinklers and bucket fountain. Features include a whirlpool, large change rooms – including a family change room, ground level viewing gallery with floor to ceiling windows for clear visibility and a second floor viewing area with bench seating for 100 (elevator and stair access).
