Vaughan Healthcare Centre
Page Content
In October 2015, the City began the final work to prepare the land for the Vaughan Healthcare Centre that includes the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
The second stage of infrastructure work on the 82-acre site includes internal sewer, water and stormwater servicing; sanitary pumping station; internal roads, sidewalks and streetlighting; new traffic signals; and, streetscaping and landscaping features. The new signalized intersection on Jane Street just north of Major Mackenzie Drive was completed in June 2016 and work on the remaining roads, sidewalks and streetscaping continue and are on target for a spring 2017 completion.

About the Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct Plan

The Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct Plan provides a framework for the development of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and the balance of the City-owned lands. It includes a master servicing strategy, a functional transportation master plan, a community energy plan, an urban design framework and the phasing of proposed development. The precinct plan was approved by Vaughan Council in November 2013 after input from the public and key stakeholders.

The precinct plan allows for the development of a hospital in addition to healthcare-related uses including medical and dental offices, research and laboratory facilities, rehabilitation and long-term care facilities, education and conference facilities related to healthcare, and other uses that promote health and wellness.

The City retained the project management firm Prism Partners Inc. to lead the City’s land development team in the development of the plan. The team’s work in preparing the site will support Mackenzie Health’s mandate to plan, build and operate the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Working with consultant HOK, the City has completed the landscape architecture plan for the Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct, which promotes healthy living and wellness, and will support the design of the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
