Ward 4 Civic Hero Award presented to the late Alan Slobodsky

Alan Slobodsky was a well-known urban planner who was instrumental in bridging the gap between developers and local communities. In recognition of his efforts to bring people together in a positive and constructive way, the Ward 4 Civic Hero Award was presented posthumously to Slobodsky by Vaughan Council yesterday. His widow, Rochelle Slobodsky, accepted on his behalf.

As a member of the board of directors of the Preserve Thornhill Woods Ratepayers Association, Slobodsky used his professional expertise to help the group find common ground and resolve issues around developments in the community. In addition to his professional work, he also volunteered for the Kensington Place Retirement Centre and was on the development committee for the Jewish Youth Network. Both organizations remember him as an important adviser, team player, great networker and someone who was able to get things done. Slobodsky passed away from cancer in July 2016.
