  • A step-by-step guide to Vaughan’s planning process
As one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, Vaughan is continually changing. But the buildings don’t just get there – all development applications undergo a careful review by City staff, Vaughan Council and public agencies, where appropriate. The City also asks for feedback from residents all throughout the planning process, well before proposals are approved.
  • City of Vaughan recognizes Black History Month
The City will commemorate Black History Month throughout February, and this includes hosting multiple events. Details are as follows:
  • Winter water safety tips
Did you know the City of Vaughan maintains more than 150 stormwater management ponds? Unlike natural bodies of water, stormwater ponds are designed and built to collect rainfall and surface water runoff. They may look safe for skating, fishing or playing on – but they are not! Stormwater ponds are not made or intended for recreational use, so keep a safe distance away.
  • Do you move through the VMC
If you live, work, play or regularly commute through the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC), we want to hear from you!
  • Vaughan opens NEW outdoor skating trail
There is nothing quite like skating on an outdoor rink with family and friends on a winter day. In addition to Vaughan’s four outdoor rinks, the City has built a new skating trail at Sports Village (2600 Rutherford Rd.) that is now ready for everyone to enjoy. The project was granted funding through the Government of Canada’s Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) and is among five applications the City was awarded in 2022.
  • Advancing public safety
Public safety is a leading priority for the City of Vaughan and many steps are being taken to ensure this community continues to be a safe place for everyone who lives and works here or comes for a visit. In the coming months, the City will hold a series of meetings on community safety to provide updates in each ward and hear about the issues that matter to you.
  • Public Meetings continue in February
City of Vaughan Committee and Council meetings continue in February with in-person and virtual attendance options for Members of Council and the public.
  • Make it a summer to remember with Vaughan’s biggest camp lineup ever
Winter can feel long and leave you dreaming of warmer weather and sunshine. To help you plan for the summer, the City of Vaughan released its biggest summer camp lineup ever with more than 75 unique camps and 25 new camps for kids with specialties in creative, culinary and performing arts, enrichment, leadership, recreation, sports, outdoor adventures and water adventures.
  • Launch your own business this summer
Aspiring student entrepreneurs can be their own boss this summer! The City of Vaughan is offering the Summer Company program, in association with the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, to prepare young entrepreneurs with a comprehensive portfolio of tools, skills, connections and resources required to succeed in their business ventures. Applications for this year’s Summer Company program are now open at vaughanbusiness.ca/Summer-Company and will close on Monday, April 17.
  • Enterprise Information Management Services managing and preserving Vaughan’s rich history
The Office of the City Clerk has an important function at the City of Vaughan – have you ever wondered what duties they perform or services they provide? As part of a new series, the City is showcasing the vital work undertaken by this busy team. Next up: Enterprise Information Management Services.
  • Building Vaughan
City building doesn’t happen overnight. Well before construction begins, developments undergo a careful review by City staff, Vaughan Council, public agencies (such as the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, York Region and provincial ministries, where appropriate) … and you! Public feedback is a vital part of the planning process and there are many ways to have a say before applications are approved.
  • Do you have a water leak?
Water leaks can happen to anyone – and most leaks are silent, which makes them hard to find. Whether they come from your toilet, bathtub, washing machine or dishwasher, they can cause a high water and wastewater bill and costly damage to your home. That’s why the City of Vaughan is providing tips you can use to help catch leaks early – or hopefully prevent them before they even happen.
  • From the archives: The evolution of Vaughan
From the traditional territories of the First Peoples of Turtle Island, to a farmland community, to a bustling city centre and everything in between – Vaughan's transformation is a story worth telling. The City’s popular monthly series continues, with historical content from the Vaughan Archives being shared. Scroll through memory lane, learn about the city's past and explore the places, people and events that were pivotal to the development of the Vaughan we know today. This month, the City is highlighting the evolution of Vaughan.
  • Be wildlife aware …
The days may be colder, but urban wildlife – including coyotes, foxes, raccoons, squirrels and more – are still enjoying life here. This is normal, and with these tips from the City of Vaughan, you can be more confident and live peacefully with urban wildlife.
  • What to know before it snows
As snow starts to pile up, the City of Vaughan is reminding everyone to keep parked cars off the roads during and after snowfalls to allow City crews to clear streets and sidewalks properly. On-street parking blocks our plows from safely passing around parked cars, and streets and sidewalks may not be plowed as a result.
