Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement during a flag-raising ceremony at Vaughan City Hall today to help raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. Mayor Bevilacqua used the occasion to announce a contribution from the Spirit of Generosity to support the mission of the MS Society – York Region Chapter.

“Today, we are gathered to raise the flag for Multiple Sclerosis – a meaningful gesture to help raise awareness of the issues faced by individuals and families living with Multiple Sclerosis.

“We are grateful to live in a community with organizations such as the MS Society – York Region Chapter that are committed to making a difference in the fight against this complex disease. With a passionate team to run programs and events throughout the year, staff and volunteers with this local chapter raise funds and awareness through events such as the annual golf tournament and car show. Combined with national and global efforts, their advocacy and fundraising efforts brings the MS Society closer to the ultimate goal of finding a cure for MS.

“We live in a compassionate and supportive city where citizens place great value on getting involved and helping those who need it most.

“It is this generous nature and capacity for caring that make the City of Vaughan the wonderful place it is today.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the MS Society – York Region Chapter for so passionately providing services to people living with MS in our community. Their continued efforts are making a positive difference to those affected by Multiple Sclerosis.”
