Upgrades are underway in the Woodbridge Avenue corridor. As part of the City of Vaughan’s Woodbridge Avenue Improvements and Streetscaping Project, the focus is on beautifying the area, respecting its history and completing key underground infrastructure work. Want to hear more about the plans? A Drop-in Information Session will be held at the Woodbridge Library, located at 150 Woodbridge Ave., on Wednesday, June 22 between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Come any time that is most convenient for you.
Participants will have the opportunity to view the plans, ask questions and learn more about the scheduled work, proposed benefits, construction timelines, impacts and more. The session will also be bilingual – serving both English and Italian-speaking citizens. Details are available at vaughan.ca/WoodbridgeAve.
About the Woodbridge Avenue Improvements and Streetscaping Project
Woodbridge Avenue is a commercial and residential street located in the heart of Woodbridge Village. The Woodbridge Avenue corridor and the surrounding area – from Islington Avenue to Kipling Avenue – have rapidly changed in the last decade with high-density development, including residential and mixed-use buildings, resulting in a larger urbanized area.
The Woodbridge Avenue Streetscape Plan (PDF) was completed in 2017 to address this growth and ensure the design of Woodbridge Avenue continues to be safe, accessible, inviting and timeless. The Woodbridge Avenue Improvements and Streetscaping Project is guided by this plan, as it provides a framework for the layout and detailed design of the public and private streetscape spaces, including pedestrian connections. Under this framework, the design will:
As part of this process, an extensive review of the infrastructure on Woodbridge Avenue was also undertaken in 2020 to prioritize what needed to be completed, and in what order, including:
In 2021, citizens were once again invited to get involved by viewing proposed plans and streetscape design concepts; learning about the project’s status and timelines; hearing about the next steps of the project; and asking questions directly to the project team.
Now, another opportunity for the community to learn more is taking place. The community is invited to attend a Drop-in Information Session at the Woodbridge Library on Wednesday, June 22 between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Once the improvements are complete, they will service the existing and future residents and businesses in the Woodbridge Village for years to come.
During construction, Woodbridge Avenue will still be open for business! Citizens are encouraged to continue to support local stores, restaurants and organizations throughout the project.
