The City of Vaughan is committed to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. This includes ensuring that municipal elections are accessible to everyone. All voting locations will be accessible and accessible entrances will be well marked with the universal access symbol and will be within close proximity of the parking lot.

City of Vaughan Election Services is pleased to offer the following accessibility options:

Accessible Vote Tabulator at City Hall
The vote tabulator located at Vaughan City Hall during Advance Vote and Voting Day is equipped with an accessible voting appliance to help address the needs of voters who may experience challenges negotiating a paper ballot.

The accessible voting appliance features a tactile controller with large buttons, distinguishable by shape and colour, and includes braille labels. The device is connected to the vote tabulator and connected to the device are a set of headphones, and at the voter's option, a set of paddles or a sip and puff device. At the request of the voter, the device can be used to allow the voter to vote independently by listening to instructions and the names of each candidate through the headphones. Once the voter has made their choice, a dedicated printer connected to the vote tabulator will produce a ballot which is indistinguishable from a normal ballot marked by hand. The printed ballot will be outputted into a secrecy folder, and then the ballot will be fed into the tabulator as with any other ballot.

Curbside Voting
Voters may, by appointment, schedule a curbside vote at Vaughan City Hall at any time that the City Hall voting place is open for Advance Vote and Voting Day. The voter will arrive alongside the curb at the East Entrance to City Hall, where two election officials will meet you to confirm your identification and take your voter information card (if you received one). They will then strike you off the Voters' List inside and return with a ballot inside the secrecy folder, along with a pen and surface on which to mark your ballot. Once you have confidentially marked your ballot and closed the secrecy folder, the election officials will take the secure ballot inside to the tabulator. Once the ballot has confidentially been fed into the tabulator, the election officials will return to confirm that your ballot has been counted successfully.

To schedule a curbside voting appointment, please email elections@vaughan.ca or call 905-832-8585. Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance of your preferred date and time. Please note that a voter MUST be on the Voters' List to schedule a curbside voting appointment.

Home Voting
Voters may, by appointment, schedule a home voting opportunity at any time that voting places are open during Advance Vote or on Voting Day. A voter's eligiblity will be confirmed against the Voter's List at the time the appointment is scheduled. At the time of your appointment, two election officials carrying City of Vaughan identification, will attend at your place of residence along with a ballot, secrecy folder and ballot marking pen. The election officials will check your identification, and then present the ballot for you to mark. Once you have confidentially made your mark on the ballot, you will close the secrecy folder with the ballot inside and pass it to the election officials. The ballot and secrecy folder will be sealed in an envelope with DRO tape and signed by the election officials present, in full view of the voter. The envelope seal will be broken by the Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer at City Hall, who will remove the secrecy folder with the ballot inside, and confidentially feed it into the tabulator.

To schedule a home voting appointment, please email elections@vaughan.ca or call 905-832-8585. Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance of your preferred date and time. Please note that a voter MUST be on the Voters' List to schedule a home voting appointment.
