Cycling Webinar - September 26, 2022

The City of Vaughan continues to focus on creating an efficient and reliable transportation network that gets you where you need to go in a safe and sustainable way, no matter your mode of travel. Most recently, the City’s Clark Avenue Cycle Tracks project was completed. Join the City of Vaughan, Thornhill SNAP, and Smart Commute for a free, online webinar to learn more about the new Clark Avenue cycle tracks, as well as connections to other cycling and multi-use tracks in Vaughan.

Date and Time: Monday, September 26, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Registration is through Eventbrite. 

During the webinar, we'll cover:

  • Destinations you can ride to with new cycle tracks
  • How to get (re)started with cycling
  • Road rules and safety tips to help you feel more comfortable exploring by bike
  • Answers to your questions

Smart Commute Month

September is Smart Commute Month – challenge yourself to a more sustainable commute. Participate in Smart Commute Month by:

  • Reading about the Clark Avenue multi-model transportation corridor retrofit project, and try out the new cycle tracks on Clark Avenue. Then, log your trip on the Smart Commute tool for a chance to win a prize.
  • Attending the cycling webinar on September 26, see above for more information.
  • Filling out a 2-miunte survey, describing how you get around, and take a pledge to travel sustainably. There are 21 gift cards and 3 grand prizes to be won.
  • Using the online tool at SmartCommute.ca to explore your transportation options, match your trips with others and track the impact of your travel choices. 

Culture Days
From September 23 - October 16, celebrate creativity everywhere, everday. Culture Days is a three week national celebration of arts and culture in Vaughan. How to get involved:
  1. Download and participate in a self-guided scavenger hunt (PDF) in Langstaff EcoPark/Keffer Marsh. Explore the great outdoors by visiting the Langstaff EcoPark/Keffer Marsh along the Bartley Smith Greenway trail system, part of the Vaughan Super Trail. While you hike, learn about important environmental features and the Indigenous history of the Don River that winds through the EcoPark. Please be considerate of other users by practicing safe distancing of at least 6 feet. Do not visit the trail if you are not feeling well, and follow all York Region Public Health guidelines.
  2. Check out culturedays.ca for local events.Vaughan specific events will also be featured on the City's Culture Days website.
Green Guardians
Green Guardians is the City of Vaughan’s new environmental stewardship program – and the City is encouraging residents and businesses to get involved. As a Green Guardian of Vaughan, you can join City-led or community-driven events and activities that promote environmental stewardship and help keep Vaughan safe, clean and beautiful.

Gardening programs and webinars

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is offering virtual programs this spring, to learn about local frogs, the life of a tree and everything you need to know about pollinators and gardening.
