HERO Workshop
Want to reduce utility bills, improve home comfort and reduce greenhouse gas emissions? The City of Vaughan, in partnership with Humber College and Enbridge Gas, is offering a virtual Home Efficiency Retrofit Orientation (HERO) workshop to Vaughan homeowners. This workshop is focused on engaging homeowners to understand and incorporate available energy retrofits, recognize the benefits of energy-efficient retrofits and learn about rebates and incentives.
 
When: Sunday, October 25 | 10:00am - 12:00pm OR 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Register for one session. Both workshops cover the same material.
  • Session 1, 10:00am-12:00pm: Registration Link.
  • Session 2, 2:00pm-4:00pm: Registration Link.
Where: virtual, using the Zoom platform.

**Please note that the workshop is geared toward single-family homeowners (i.e. detached, semi-detached, townhome) that are able to retrofit their building envelope, for example: heating and cooling systems, hot water systems and windows.
 
These workshops are also provided as part of the City's Thornhill SNAP, in collaboration with Toronto and  Region Conservation Authority.
 
 

Bike Month  - Sept. 1 - Oct. 9

September is Bike Month! Bike Month is a celebration of all things cycling in the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area (GTHA). Bike Month runs from Tuesday, September 1 to Wednesday, September 30 and features group rides, webinars and more. You can find more events at www.bikemonth.ca  
The City has partnered with Smart Commute and York Region to execute cycling-centered programming designed to get the community moving and riding their bikes. Until Friday, October 9, activities include a self-guided Ride & Seek Scavenger Hunt and cycling-focused webinars.
 
  • Ride & Seek Scavenger Hunt – explore the region by participating in a bike scavenger hunt. Register online, then get on your bike and snap a picture at the list of landmarks in Vaughan (or Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill and Whitchurch-Stouffville). The contest runs from September 14 – October 9. You could win one of six $50 e-gift cards or one grand prize $150 e-gift card, courtesy of York Region.   • Webinars and videos - Never cycled before, or nervous to cycle on main roads? Smart Commute has created educational videos and webinars to help you get started.

Culture Days - Sept. 25 - Oct. 25
The City of Vaughan is a proud annual participant of Culture Days, a free national event celebrating arts, culture, creativity and inspiration in Vaughan. To celebrate our 11th year, join us for a month of free digital activations and on-site activities with family, friends and neighbours. Share how you celebrate using #VaughanCultureDays on social media.
 
How to get involved:
 
  1. Visit the City’s Culture Days website for a full list of activations.
  2. Take part in a self-guided nature scavenger hunt! Download the scavenger hunt and use it at any time during Culture Days. Learn about important environmental features and the Indigenous history of this area as you hike or cycle. Where: Langstaff EcoPark/Keffer Marsh – access from N Rivermede Road and Audia Court.
