North Maple Regional Park (NMRP) started as a plan to develop 80 hectares (200 acres) into a signature park and a world-class recreation and culture destination. In 2018 Council expanded the park plan by including the former Keele Valley Landfill, Vaughan Township Landfill and wooded valley lands in a 364-hectare (900-acre) vision (PDF). The park will give back to residents after years of landfill operations.
NMRP is located on the Oak Ridges Moraine and the source of the Don River. The site’s ecological significance and the natural environment play a key role in the park vision.
In 2018, the park and soccer fields opened to the public and in 2019 the pavilion was completed. Site preparations for the next 52 ha (130 acres) of park development are underway.
Advancing the plans for NMRP is a 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan priority and supports the Active Together Master Plan which guides improvements to the City’s recreation facilities and programs.
